Staying the Course

by Barbara B. Appelbaum 4. May 2011 07:00

When I weighed myself this morning, much to my chagrin I gained 6 pounds over the past two weeks!  Prior to that, it has taken me almost one full year to lose 20 lbs. “Walking the talk” by eating right, exercising, getting plenty of rest, etc. proves challenging on a regular basis and I thought it important for me to share that with you.

People seem to put me on a pedestal and think I don’t really understand their struggles. You see, I’m just as human as you are. I work to have the life I want and sometimes find it difficult to stay the course when my body doesn’t want to cooperate. For example, my eating and exercise habits haven’t changed over the past few weeks yet I can tell that my body is going through some sort of inner battle because I just feel “off” and gained that excess weight for no apparent reason.  Years ago, I would have drown my sorrows in more food and gotten lost in the cyclone of self-destruction.  Now, I take this situation as a reminder to encourage myself forward and realize that sometimes we have to take a few steps back in order to propel further forward.

What do you do when your body betrays all the effort you put into making it the best it can be?  You might give up, as many do. As easy as that may be, do you really want to give up on yourself? Or, do you want to stay the course and prove to yourself that you are strong? Personally, I opt for continuing the fight, staying the course, and doing the best that I can to remain living in wellness. You see, wellness is a way of life. It’s not something you chose to do one day and not the next. I do hope you will join me and live in wellness today and always!
