They say that when we re-live tragedy, even years later, stress takes the same toll on our bodies and souls. However, if we forget, what was the point of sacrifices made on our behalf? With the memorials for 9-11 this past weekend taking place around the world, it is apparent that we will never forget. And as I watched the tapes of the horrific events unfold 10 years ago, I cried as I did that very day.
Other horrific events are marked every year as well: the Holocaust, Pearl Harbor, and Iwo Jima to mention a few. Yet when we remember, we also reflect. It is a time to remind ourselves of our strength, resilience, courage and love. It is an opportunity to recognize our individual gifts that contribute to the whole society of our world. When we do this, our stress levels actually decrease because we feel in control.
Every day we face smaller adversities that challenge us. It is up to you to see the gift that lies within. Opportunity is abundant; you just have to take a moment to recognize it. So, never forget and take a moment to reflect. You hold the power to overcome adversity; recognize the GIFT™.
Be Present, Be Purposeful, Be Well.
