Star Light, Star Bright…

by Barbara B. Appelbaum 29. June 2011 07:00

If tomorrow never comes, what do you “wish” you would have done with your life?  How is it different from what you are doing now?

When I was a child, we used to “wish upon a star” for whatever we hoped would come true.  Sometimes it did, albeit rarely.  As I’ve grown up I realize that if my dreams came true, I made that happen.  So if you’re not living your dreams, maybe it is time to re-evaluate your life and see how you can take a few small steps toward lasting change.  Dream big and act on it!  They will come true.

What Do You Want?

by Barbara B. Appelbaum 22. June 2011 07:00

Have you ever been asked, “What do you want?” I’ve been asked that question all my life with regard to something as simple as choosing a location for dinner to something as complex as choosing a career. The only problem that used to occur is that I had no idea what I wanted because whenever I was asked that question, the person asking always had their own preconceived idea of what my answer should be. Therefore, as I grew up I learned to choose what everyone else wanted or expected. It is only as an adult that I’m realizing I actually do have the power of choice.

Now that I do know what I want (most of the time), I am rarely asked. I have come to believe it is because I no longer give the expected response and people, no matter how well-intentioned, only ask questions to which they believe they can control the response. It seems to be human nature to be concerned with “what’s in it for me” even when we think we’re putting the other person first.

So where am I going with this? I want you to realize what you want and go after it no matter what obstacles people may inadvertently put in front of you. Keep focused on what brings you joy and pursue your passions. Live your life, not someone else’s. At first, people around you may not know how to react and may get upset. Yet as they witness how happy you are, they will shift their perspective to wanting the best for you.

Discover choice, live purposefully and be well.

Be Inspired Wellness Summit Has Begun

by Barbara B. Appelbaum 15. June 2011 07:00

Wow! On Monday the Be Inspired Wellness Summit kicked off with two amazing speakers!

First was James E. Zechman, CEO and Co-Founder of Alternative Medicine Integration.  Jim spoke about behavior modification, accountability, stress, and the importance of sleep and vitamin D.  Although not a physician, Jim’s knowledge about an integrative approach to healthcare is vast.  His company motto is, “Your biography is your biology” meaning there is a strong connection between your mind, body and spirit.

Second was Darla LeDoux of Doux Coaching.  Darla spoke about letting go of “stuff” so as to find your truth.  She equated this to being stuck in any one (or combination of) six hallways: fixing, pleasing, controlling, blaming, permitting and denying.  And by discovering your own truth versus what others think you “should” do, stress is decreased and your overall wellness is improved.  Darla works with entrepreneurs to help them get clear about the business they are really in and find their “sweet spot.”

Five more exciting speakers are scheduled through June 24 including Monica Strobel, author of The Compliment Quotient whose interview starts at 6:00pm ET tonight.  It’s not too late to register! Simply CLICK HERE now.
